Staff from the NRC and DNFSB Office of the Inspector General accompanied IG Robert J. Feitel to the Decommissioning Strategy Forum and RadWaste Summit held consecutively in Summerlin, NV. The fourth annual Forum, held November 1–2, enabled its nationwide and international participants to discuss and debate aspects of plant decommissioning with colleagues from utility companies, government agencies, and industry. Immediately following, on November 2–5, OIG staff attended the fifteenth annual Summit, where speakers discussed the future of radioactive waste management, environmental management and environmental justice perspectives, NRC updates, recent developments in high-level waste transportation, and procurement initiatives and their benefits for all stakeholders.
